In this assessment, you’ll learn:
The ZeroFox Geopolitical Working Group has been tracking developments around the
G7 Summit, held in Hiroshima, Japan, from May 19 through May 21, 2023. The event gathers leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Represented jointly by the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission, the European Union (EU) participates in all discussions as a guest.
The G7 Summit leaders are expected to discuss various topics on the economy and regional
affairs, with the Russia-Ukraine conflict being at the center of the discussion. Stricter
sanctions against Russia are expected to be discussed and potentially announced. There
are rumors that the United States will propose a ban on all exports to Russia except for
some medical and agricultural products. However, Japan and the EU have reportedly
opposed such a proposal, stating that implementation of such a ban is unrealistic.
Other expected geopolitical topics include restrictions on North Korea's nuclear
program and missile testing and further calls for China to abstain from threats and use
of force in Taiwan.
