Details

On June 3, 2022, and June 23, 2022, the Telegram channel Kingsman posted a data breach package (in two parts) targeting GeekBrains, an online educational platform for programmers operating from Russia. The threat actor who posted the package noted that the first part of the data package includes 105,000 lines and the second part contains 107,535 lines of user information – with names, email addresses, and telephone numbers. The data package was also circulated on the underground forum BreachForums (on June 1, 2022, by the threat actor "ougogz") and in the Telegram channel KelvinSecurity - Dark Market & Leaks on June 3, 2022 and June 23, 2022. From the package shared on the Telegram channel Kingsman, ZeroFox extracted 213,003 email addresses. No passwords were found in this breach. Other notable data fields observed in this package include name and phone number.

Recommendations

  • If not already enabled, turn on the compromised credentials rule for all relevant entities and ensure relevant emails are entered for those entities, or reach out to [email protected] for assistance
  • If one of your entities receives an alert, ZeroFox recommends immediate password changes for the affected account
  • Enable 2-factor authentication for all of your organizational accounts to help mitigate phishing and credential stuffing attacks
