Details
Highlights: Microsoft's Patch Tuesday update for October 2022 contained 84 vulnerabilities in total, with:
- 1 vulnerability rated as Critical
- 63 vulnerabilities rated as High
- 2 zero-day vulnerabilities, one of which is actively exploited
This month’s security updates do not contain fixes for two zero-day vulnerabilities reported publicly on September 29, 2022 (CVE-2022-41040 and CVE-2022-41082) – widely known as ProxyNotShell – which affect Microsoft's Exchange Servers. Microsoft stated that it will release updates for these two bugs when they are ready.
Most notable vulnerabilities
Microsoft has listed two zero-day vulnerabilities (CVE-2022-41033 – a Windows COM+ Event System Service elevation of privilege vulnerability and CVE-2022-41043 – a Microsoft Office information disclosure vulnerability) among the bugs fixed in the October Patch Tuesday security update. The former is being actively exploited in the wild.
