Details

On August 6, 2022, an elite-level threat actor “icecube100” from BreachForums posted a data breach package targeting Eviction Lab, an U.S.-based research center at Princeton University that conducts research on evictions happening in the United States and publishes datasets on it. The threat actor noted that the data package includes 30,998 lines of user information. The data package was also circulated in a Telegram channel “ARES V.3" on August 6, 2022. From the package shared on BreachForums, ZeroFox extracted 30,942 email addresses. No passwords were found in this breach. Other notable data fields observed in this package include email address, name, postal address, phone number, and IP address.

Recommendations

  • If not already enabled, turn on the compromised credentials rule for all relevant entities and ensure relevant emails are entered for those entities, or reach out to [email protected] for assistance
  • If one of your entities receives an alert, ZeroFox recommends immediate password changes for the affected account
  • Enable 2-factor authentication for all of your organizational accounts to help mitigate phishing and credential stuffing attacks
