Scope Note

ZeroFox Intelligence is derived from a variety of sources, including—but not limited to—curated open-source accesses, vetted social media, proprietary data sources, and direct access to threat actors and groups through covert communication channels. Information relied upon to complete any report cannot always be independently verified. As such, ZeroFox applies rigorous analytic standards and tradecraft in accordance with best practices and includes caveat language and source citations to clearly identify the veracity of our Intelligence reporting and substantiate our assessments and recommendations. All sources used in this particular Intelligence product were identified prior to 5:00 PM (EST) on April 3, 2023; per cyber hygiene best practices, caution is advised when clicking on any third-party links.

Key Findings

  • While the areas surrounding the Masters Tournament are considered to be high-crime areas, the tournament itself is considered to be at low risk of criminal activity due to the specific location, as well the increased security measures in place throughout the week.
  • The threat of terrorist activity targeting the event is considered to be low, and no indications of threats have been identified, although the threat can never be ruled out completely in large spectator gatherings.
  • The threat of disruptive activity impacting the tournament is considered to be low; however, given the tension surrounding the presence of LIV Golf participants and the publicity surrounding the event, it cannot be ruled out completely.
  • The risk of a cyberattack impacting the Masters Tournament is currently considered low; ZeroFox Intelligence did not observe any evidence in support of such an attack. Nonetheless, the risk can never be completely ruled out given the visibility surrounding a major sporting event such as the Masters.
  • Ticketing for the tournament is awarded through a lottery system, and applicants have already been informed if they have been awarded tickets. Although tickets are available on reseller sites, buyers should be aware of fraudulent ticket scams, which have occurred previously with this tournament.
