Most notable vulnerabilities
Microsoft has deployed patches for 4 critical bugs (CVE-2023-35630, CVE-2023-35628, CVE-2023-35641, and CVE-2023-36019) in the December 2023 Patch Tuesday security updates. Moreover, the company has fixed an AMD “division-by-zero” information disclosure bug ( CVE-2023-20588), the mitigation for which requires a Windows update.
CVE-2023-35630
CVE-2023-35630 (CVSS score: 8.8) is a critical Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Remote Code Execution Vulnerability. Microsoft Windows could allow a local authenticated attacker to gain elevated privileges on the system, caused by a flaw in the Win32k component. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability requires the attacker to modify an option->length field in a DHCPv6 DHCPV6_MESSAGE_INFORMATION_REQUEST input message. This attack is limited to systems connected to the same network segment as the attacker.

CVE-2023-35628
CVE-2023-35628 (CVSS score: 8.1) is a critical Windows MSHTML Platform Remote Code Execution Vulnerability. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability would rely upon complex memory shaping techniques to attempt an attack. The attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a specially crafted email which triggers automatically when it is retrieved and processed by the Outlook client. This could lead to exploitation BEFORE the email is viewed in the Preview Pane. Microsoft Windows could allow a physical attacker to execute arbitrary code on the system, caused by a flaw in USBHUB 3.0 Device Driver component. By sending a specially crafted request, an attacker could exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code on the system.

CVE-2023-36019
CVE-2023-36019 (CVSS score: 9.6) is a critical Microsoft Power Platform Connector Spoofing Vulnerability. A remote authenticated attacker could exploit this vulnerability to inject malicious script into a Web page which would be executed in a victim's Web browser within the security context of the hosting Web site, once the page is viewed. An attacker could use this vulnerability to steal the victim's cookie-based authentication credentials.
Affected products:
- Azure Logic Apps
- Microsoft Power Platform
CVE-2023-35641
CVE-2023-35641 (CVSS: 8.8) is an Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Remote Code Execution Vulnerability. Microsoft Windows is vulnerable to a denial of service, caused by a flaw in the Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) component. To exploit this vulnerability, an attacker would need to send a maliciously crafted DHCP message to a server that runs the Internet Connection Sharing service. This attack is limited to systems connected to the same network segment as the attacker. The attack cannot be performed across multiple networks (for example, a WAN) and would be limited to systems on the same network switch or virtual network.
