ZeroFox Intelligence Flash Report - Indian Farmers’ Protests and the Risk of Internet Shutdowns
Over 200 farming unions are attempting to march on India’s capital, demanding agricultural reforms. Police have constructed numerous blockades on major highways and throughout New Delhi, severely impacting travel. A nationwide strike on February 16 will include slow-roll protests on major roadways and possible rallies in major cities. Organizers have voiced a willingness to continue the movement for months if needed. Internet shutdowns are frequently used by Indian security forces to halt the spread of protest-related news, but they have major economic consequences.
NATO Promises One Million Drones for Ukraine
On February 15, NATO General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg announced the alliance will supply Ukraine with one million drones. This comes one day after the United Kingdom and Latvia announced they would supply Ukraine with thousands of first-person view (FPV) drones. Drones play a critical role in both Ukrainian offensive and defensive operations. While Ukraine has worked to expand domestic production of innovative FPV drones, additional drones from NATO would bolster Ukraine's supplies.
Turkey and Egypt strengthen ties amid Israel-Hamas conflict
On February 14, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi in Egypt as the Israel-Hamas conflict increasingly affects the border between Egypt and the Gaza Strip. Both the presidents condemned Israel's recent airstrikes along the border and planned ground offensive in Rafah City, calling for an immediate ceasefire. The city hosts more than 1.4 million internally displaced Palestinians, and UN officials have stated that a ground offensive would result in mass devastation across the city and push thousands of Palestinians into Egypt. However, Israeli officials claimed that the offensive is necessary to end the conflict with Hamas. Meanwhile, relations appeared to have renewed ties between Egypt and Turkey, which suspended diplomatic relations after a pro-Turkish President Mohammed Morsi was overthrown by Sisi in 2013. President Erdoğan also announced plans to increase trade with Egypt by USD 15 billion.
