Dozens of Wildfires Cause Widespread Damage in Texas; Claims Two Lives

Dozens of wildfires are sweeping through Texas, with the Smokehouse Creek fire, the largest blaze the state has ever faced, now exceeding 1 million acres. The fire has impacted power lines and vital infrastructure, causing widespread power outages, and there have been at least two reported deaths. Governor Greg Abbott has declared a disaster in 60 counties. State emergency officials have reported that the fire has crossed into Oklahoma and has already destroyed more than 12 homes.

Russian Rocket Launches Iranian Satellite

A Russian Soyuz rocket blasted off from the Vostochny launch facility to launch an Iranian satellite and 18 Russian satellites into orbit. Iranian media said its satellite is equipped with three cameras to take images for environmental, agricultural, and other purposes. This marks the second Russian launch of an Iranian satellite in as many years. In August 2022, a Russian Soyuz rocket launched Iran's Khayyam satellite into orbit. These launches underscore the increasing military cooperation between Russia and Iran in recent years.

United States and South Korea Military Exercises from March 4-14 Aimed at North Korea Aggression

The United States and South Korea will hold an 11-day military exercise in South Korea from March 4–14, called Freedom Shield. The drills will involve virtual and field training across multiple domains, including land, sea, air, space, and cyber. Several allied states will also support the exercises, including Australia, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, France, the UK, Greece, Italy, New Zealand, the Philippines, and Thailand.
