Armenian PM Urges Integration with the EU

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan called for a public dialogue on whether Armenia should apply for European Union membership. Pashinyan added his government "has the political will to continue working towards a maximum deepening of Armenia's ties with the EU." His statements come days after the European Parliament passed a resolution "on closer ties between the EU and Armenia." Closer cooperation between the EU and Armenia would deal another blow to relations between Armenia and longtime ally Russia. Relations between the two countries worsened after Armenia accused Russia of failing to defend Armenia during the second Nagorno-Karabakh war. Over the past year, Armenia has increasingly distanced itself from Russia.

EU Officials Agree in Principle to Provide Ukraine With EUR 5 Billion in Military Aid

European Union ambassadors agreed in principle to provide Ukraine with EUR 5 billion (USD 5.5 billion) in military aid through the European Peace Facility (EPF). The EPF is an off-budget instrument that can reimburse member states for weapons provided to Ukraine. The EUR 5 billion funding will likely prioritize weapons produced within the EU.

European Commission to Propose Restrictions on Russian and Belarusian Grain Imports

The European Commission is reportedly set to propose restrictions on imports of Russian and Belarusian grain next week. This development comes shortly after Poland urged European leaders to consider banning Russian and Belarusian food imports.
