International Aid Delivery Mission to Gaza Via New Maritime Corridor
A Spanish charity ship, Open Arms, carrying 200 tonnes of food across the new maritime corridor between Cyprus and Gaza, is part of an international effort to deliver aid to Gaza. A U.S.-based NGO is said to have supplied the food besides building a jetty in Gaza to unload the cargo. The Cypriot government has further stated that a second, bigger vessel is being prepared to undertake the same journey.
Russia Bars Entry to 227 American Citizens
On March 14, Russia barred entry to 227 American citizens for their alleged involvement in "Russophobic policies" and "anti-Russian actions". The list includes U.S. State Department Officials, executives from the U.S. defense sector, and academics.
Croatian Parliament Dissolves, Paving Way for Election
On March 14, the Croatian parliament dissolved itself to pave the way for a parliamentary election later this year, with 143 out of 151 lawmakers backing the decision. Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic suggested that the election could be held before the European Parliament vote, which takes place on June 6-9; however, no date has yet been set. The decision to dissolve parliament comes as Plenkovic and his conservative Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party face mounting accusations of high-level corruption from the opposition ahead of the ballot. Last month, thousands of protesters rallied in Croatia’s capital to protest against the government and demand that this year’s parliamentary election be held as soon as possible. Croatia is also scheduled to hold a presidential election by the end of the year.
