Ukraine Launches Drone-Attack on Russia’s Morozovsk Air Base
According to sources, Ukraine has conducted a massive drone attack on the Morozovsk air base in Russia, which Russian tactical bombers use to fire guided missiles. The attack has destroyed six Russian warplanes and damaged eight others, and has killed or injured 20 members of personnel, the sources added. This development comes after a Russian drone strike on Thursday, targeting residential buildings and an energy facility, reportedly killed four people and disrupted power to 350,000 residents in Kharkiv.
Somalia Expels Ethiopia's Ambassador Amid Tensions
On April 4, the Somali government issued a statement expelling the Ethiopian ambassador to Somalia and closed two consulates in Somaliland--a breakaway region of Somalia. The Ethiopian ambassador must leave Somalia within 72 hours. The announcement comes amid heightened tensions between both countries after Ethiopia signed a tentative January 1 agreement with separatist Somaliland government officials; the agreement would allow Ethiopia to use a portion of its coastline in exchange for recognition that Somaliland is an independent country from Somalia. Somali officials claimed that the agreement violates the country’s territorial sovereignty.
Finland Indefinitely Closes Border Crossings With Russia
On April 4, the Finnish government indefinitely extended the closure of border crossings with Russia. Finland first closed the crossings in November 2023 after Finland accused Russia of sending migrants to the Finnish border to destabilize the country. Finland had previously extended the border closures every two months, but the policy will now be in effect until further notice.
