U.S. Approves Sale of HAWK Missile System to Ukraine

On April 9, the U.S. State Department approved the sale of support tools and logistics for the HAWK Phase III missile system worth USD 138 million. The HAWK Phase III is a medium-range surface-to-air missile that provides air defense coverage against low-to-medium-altitude aircraft. The package will primarily include maintenance and repair kits for Ukraine's existing HAWK systems. The sale aims to support Ukraine's air defenses amid heavy Russian airstrikes; however, the supportive nature of the package is unlikely to significantly impact Ukraine's capabilities.

Protesters Demand Resignation of Delhi Chief Minister

On April 10, activists demanding the resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held a protest in India’s capital, New Delhi. Kejriwal, one of the founders of the opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was arrested on March 21 under corruption charges. India’s coalition of opposition parties refuted the arrest as politically motivated and have held multiple protests demanding Kejriwal’s release. On April 9, India’s supreme court upheld the arrest as legal. Additional protests in New Delhi and elsewhere calling for Kejriwal’s release or his resignation can be expected in the coming days. Possible assembly sites include government buildings and prominent public areas.

New Wave of Russian Missile Strikes in Several Parts of Ukraine

A fresh wave of Russian missile strikes targeting several regions of Ukraine's Kharkiv and Odesa has killed seven people and left approximately 200,000 without power. A Russian strike on a grocery store and a pharmacy in north-eastern Kharkiv claimed the lives of three people, while in the southern Odesa region, Russian missiles killed four. The attacks come after President Joe Biden urged the U.S. House of Representatives to vote immediately on the USD 60 billion aid package bill for Ukraine.
