Biden Signs Bill Authorizing USD 61 Billion in Ukraine Aid

On April 24, U.S. President Joe Biden signed legislation releasing USD 61 billion in Ukraine aid. Soon after signing the bill, Biden announced the United States would begin transferring an initial tranche of USD 1 billion to Ukraine "within hours." This package will include military equipment Ukraine desperately needs to reinforce its frontline positions, such as artillery ammunition and air defense components.

Armenia and Azerbaijan Agree to Delimitate Border

On April 19, Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to delimitate their entire shared border in a crucial step towards a possible peace deal between the two countries. As part of the delimitation, Armenia agreed to officials cede four remote villages - Baganis, Voskepar, Kirantz and Berkaber - to Azerbaijan. The return of these four villages has been a key Azerbaijani demand since the end of the second Nagorno-Karabakh War. This development both reduces the likelihood of renewed tensions, and raises the possibility for a potential peace deal between the two countries.

North Korea Fires Short Range Ballistic Missiles and Launches Multiple Rocket Nuclear Counter Attack Training, Trilateral Alliance Responds

On April 23, North Korea continued provocations of ballistic missile testing and nuclear counterattack training with multiple rocket launches. On April 22nd, North Korea launched several ballistic missiles into the East Sea and North Korea announced on the 23rd that it conducted virtual comprehensive nuclear counterattack tactical training using super-large multiple rocket launchers under the leadership of Chairman Kim Jong-un. The provocations occurred during the United States and South Korea Air Force military joint exercises but North Korea stated the tests are not responses to the military trainings. The trilateral alliance between South Korea, the United States and Japan assured of reasonable responses if nuclear tests are conducted and deterrence will be enhanced in military capabilities. The trilateral cooperations will continue to detect and respond against imminent threats from North Korea's military exercises.
