Category 4 Beryl Now Heads toward Jamaica
Hurricane Beryl, passing through the southeast Caribbean, has now left six dead in its wake as it currently makes its way toward Jamaica. Researchers are worried that Jamaica is directly in the hurricane’s path while officials are warning residents to evacuate in the face of this “serious threat.” The Hurricane threatens the Caribbean especially the mountainous islands which are reportedly the most at risk. “This (the hurricane) could cause life threatening flash floods and mudslides in some of these areas.” At the time of writing, a hurricane warning has been sounded for Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Little Cayman, and Cayman Brac. Beryl was first recorded as Category 5, but the hurricane is now slightly losing intensity and is wreaking havoc as Category 4.
Houthis Claim to Attack Four Vessels in the Red Sea
Yemen’s Houthi militia claimed to have launched attacks on four different ships in the Red, Mediterranean, and Arabian Seas and the Indian Ocean. Media and military sources have not yet confirmed the claim. A Houthi spokesman claimed the attacks targeted the Israeli cargo ship MSC Unific, American oil tanker Delonix, British landing ship Anvil Point, and a fourth vessel identified only as the Lucky Sailor. The claim comes amid stepped-up Houthi attacks on merchant vessels and military ships allegedly affiliated with Israel.
Stampede at a Religious Event in North India Claims More Than 100 Lives
More than 120 people were killed by a stampede triggered during a religious event in Hathras district in Uttar Pradesh, India. At the time of writing, authorities are determining the identities of all the victims, most of whom are women and children. Officials have blamed the incident on the overcrowding of the venue, stating that a high-level committee will further investigate the incident. The Uttar Pradesh Police have filed an FIR (first information report) against the organizers of the event.
