Student Group in Bangladesh Announces Week-Long Program to Demand Prosecution of Former Prime Minister

On August 13, the Bangladeshi student organization Anti-Discrimination Student Movement announced a week-long program calling for the prosecution of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, among other demands. Protesters plan to hold marches across the country on August 13 in locations where protesters died during the violent unrest that persisted throughout much of July. On the same day in the capital Dhaka, demonstrators will gather at the Raju Memorial Sculpture at Dhaka University. Hundreds to thousands of participants may attend individual actions. Additional actions may be announced as the program proceeds. Well-attended gatherings could cause localized transportation disruptions. Security forces may deploy to monitor actions but are unlikely to confront protesters unless significant disruption is observed.

Greece Takes Stock of Wildfires that Raged through Athens Suburbs

Scattered fires are being contained as Athens recently experienced dangerous wildfires that necessitated evacuations and claimed at least one victim. Currently, investigations continue to take stock of the damage caused. The government will introduce support measures to help affected individuals to rebuild their properties with financial assistance and interest-free loans.

Israel and Hezbollah Exchange Artillery and Missile Fire; Impacts Reported in Southern Lebanon and Northern Israel

On August 13, multiple missiles were fired into northern Israel towards the towns of Malkia, Dishon, and Yiftach in northern Israel near the Lebanese border. There was reportedly damage in Yiftach, but no casualties at any of the locations struck. The Israeli military struck multiple targets in southern Lebanon as well throughout the day on August 13, 2024. Multiple areas were struck by both artillery and aircraft bombing, to include the towns of Khiam, Kafr Hamam, Wazzani, Naqoura, Sheheen, Wadi al-Aziziya, Kounin, Kfar Kila, and Aita al-Shaab. There are reportedly three injured as a result of the bombing of Sheheen, and currently no available information regarding casualties for the other areas affected.
