Israeli Military Kills Hezbollah Operative with Drone Strike and Bombs Hezbollah Missile Depots
Hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah continue, and on August 19, 2024, Hezbollah confirmed that operative Hussein Ali Hussein had been killed in Deir Qanoun in southern Lebanon by an Israeli drone strike. The Israeli air force additionally carried out a bombing raid on Hezbollah missile depots in the southern Lebanon valley. Hezbollah fired multiple missiles into Israel on August 19, 2024, hitting the Israeli village of Ya'ara, killing one Israeli soldier and injuring an unspecified number of civilians.
Police Operation Results in Violent Demonstrations and Closed Schools
Brazilian police carried out an extensive counter-narcotics operation in the Cidade de Deus neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. On August 12, 2024, fighting broke out at the Torkham border crossing between Taliban and Pakistani border police. Both the Taliban and Pakistani border police accuse the other of having fired first. During the course of the shooting, two Pakistani military posts were destroyed and three Afghan civilians were killed.
