U.S. and Several European Countries Impose New Sanctions on Iran

The United States, France, the United Kingdom, and Germany announced new sanctions against Iran for its transfer of ballistic missiles to Russia. This comes a day after the United States confirmed that Iran transferred about 200 ballistic missiles to Russia, which will likely soon use the weapons on the battlefield in Ukraine.

Protesting Judicial Branch Workers Storm Yucatan State Legislature After Mexican Congress Lower House Approves Judicial Reforms

On September 11, 2024, protesters stormed and took over the Yucatan state legislative headquarters in Merida, Mexico. The demonstration had been primarily composed of judicial workers who had rallied in condemnation of the controversial Mexican judicial reform proposal. The bill has sparked controversy over provisions that supporters claim would reduce corruption and what critics allege will reduce judicial autonomy. Following news that the lower chamber of the Mexican Congress had approved the reforms, the protesters stormed and took over the Yucatan state legislative building. Further demonstrations related to the judicial reforms are to be expected in Mexico throughout September and October, 2024.

U.S. Accuses China Of Providing Military Support to Russia

The United States accused China of providing "very substantial" support to Russia's military. Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell said China is providing significant support to Russia in exchange for military technology on submarines and missiles. Previously, the United States had criticized China over its supply of dual-use goods to Russia, but is now overtly accusing China of providing direct military support.
