Iran Supplies Russia With Ballistic Missiles

Iran reportedly sent about 200 ballistic missiles to Russia. This weapons transfer marks a significant escalation of Iran's military support for Russia. Ballistic missiles are typically more difficult to shoot down than drones; the additional Iranian missiles will likely replenish Russian waning arsenal and allow Russia to continue targeted attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure. Meanwhile, the United States, France, the United Kingdom, and Germany announced new sanctions against Iran for its transfer of ballistic missiles to Russia.

U.S. Accuses China Of Providing Military Support to Russia

The United States accused China of providing "very substantial" support to Russia's military. Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell said China is providing significant support to Russia in exchange for military technology on submarines and missiles. Previously, the United States had criticized China over its supply of dual-use goods to Russia, but is now overtly accusing China of providing direct military support.

Hungary Agrees Deal to Secure Transit of Russian Oil

On September 10, Hungarian energy company MOL announced that it reached an agreement to secure the transit of Russian oil through Ukraine via the Druzhba pipeline. In July, Ukraine introduced new sanctions on Russian oil supplier Lukoil that halted Lukoil supplies to Hungary and Slovakia. MOL described the deal as a number of agreements with suppliers and pipeline operators that offered a "sustainable solution."
