Israel’s Netanyahu Cabinet Agrees to Ceasefire in Lebanon

The ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon began on November 26 with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announcing that his security cabinet agreed to a 60-day ceasefire in Lebanon. The agreement will reportedly see the Israeli military withdraw its ground troops from Lebanon over a two-month period as the Lebanese Army gradually deploys its forces to the south. For its part, Hezbollah must withdraw its fighters and military equipment to the north of the Litani River. The area between the river and the Israeli border will be patrolled by a combination of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) troops and Lebanese Army forces. Moments before a ceasefire took effect, air strikes were reported in Beirut amid continued cross-border hostilities. Hezbollah claimed to have launched drones at Israel on Tuesday; while Israel conducted extensive air strikes on Beirut's southern suburbs following evacuation orders in the area. Additionally, outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden announced efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages, and measures to end the conflict without Hamas in power.

Tourist Boat Capsizes off the Coast of the Red Sea

As of November 26, 2024, a tourist boat carrying 31 passengers and 13 crew capsized off the coast of the Red Sea near Sataya Reef. Egyptian emergency personnel rescued 33 people and recovered four bodies after high tides capsized the ship. Authorities stated that the cause of the crash was due to bad weather conditions. Rescue teams will continue to search for seven people who remain missing. The boat was carrying nationals from several countries, including from Belgium, the United Kingdom, China, Finland, Switzerland, and the United States.

China to Establish a National Data Infrastructure by 2028

China’s National Data Administration (NDA) has announced that it would establish more than 100 trusted data matrices by 2028 to manage data as a key resource. The action plan defines a trusted data matrix as data circulation and utilization infrastructure based on consensus rules that connect multiple stakeholders to share data and resources. It specifies three key tasks: capacity building, cultivation and promotion, and foundation-setting actions of trusted data matrices. The action plan will promote trusted data spaces across enterprises, industries, cities, and beyond on multilateral frameworks such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS, and Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The plan highlights China’s tightening grip on data flow within the country and foreign businesses operating in China may face tougher and more complicated regulatory audits going forward.
