Bangladesh Court Rejects Bail for Hindu Leader Advocating for Minority Rights
A prominent ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) priest in Bangladesh, known for leading rallies advocating for the safety of the Hindu minority, was detained earlier this week on sedition charges. The local court denied him bail and ordered his detention while legal proceedings continue. The court's decision triggered violent clashes, resulting in the death of a lawyer and injuries to several others. In response to the unrest, a major Indian-American organization has urged both outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump to press the Bangladeshi government to protect the Hindu community. Meanwhile, ZeroFox has observed pro-Palestinian hacktivist group Mysterious Team Bangladesh announced its intent to attack websites related to the ISKCON organization worldwide.
Biden Prepares USD 725 Million Arms Package for Ukraine amid Russian Advances
U.S. President Joe Biden is reportedly set to announce a USD 725 million weapons aid package for Ukraine, including drones, anti-tank weapons, Stinger missiles, and HIMARS ammunition. The plan, which is expected to be formalized next week, also includes non-persistent landmines requested by Kyiv. This package comes as Russian forces make their fastest territorial gains since early 2022, seizing large areas. The aid uses the Presidential Drawdown Authority, tapping into remaining U.S. weapon stocks.
South Korea Battles Heavy Snow – Lives Lost and Transport Hit
Heavy snowfall in South Korea has claimed more than a few lives and has resulted in more than 140 flights canceled and ferry operations suspended. Conditions are reportedly easing and officials are now lifting heavy snow warnings in the city's metropolitan area. At the time of writing, 11 people have been injured as 53 vehicles piled up on a highway.
