FBI Probes New Orleans Truck Attack After Suspect’s Pro-ISIS Videos Surface
President Biden addressed the New Year’s day attack in New Orleans, where a truck plowed into a crowd, killing at least 15 and injuring over 30. He stated that the FBI found the suspect had posted pro-ISIS videos just hours before the attack. The investigation is still in its early stages, with authorities also looking into possible links to a Tesla explosion near President-elect Trump’s Las Vegas hotel. The Tesla Cybertruck, rented in Colorado, arrived in Las Vegas two hours before the explosion and was packed with fuel canisters and firework mortars. The blast claimed the life of the driver while injuring seven others.
Police Disrupts Attack on Church in Spain
On December 31, 2024, Spanish police announced it had arrested four individuals planning an attack on a church outside of the capital, Madrid. The arrests were made on December 19, with the attackers aiming to target large gatherings related to Christmas. The attackers were likely inspired by Islamic State (IS) or al-Qaeda propaganda calling for attacks in Europe. Israel's war with Hamas has seen a reemergence of these sorts of attacks across Europe where the risk remains throughout the holiday period.
ZeroFox Intelligence Flash Report - EU Energy Risks in Early 2025
European energy prices have reached their highest level since the start of Russia’s war in Ukraine in early 2022, just as Ukraine plans to halt the transit of Russian gas through the Druzhba pipeline on January 1, 2025. While price increases are steepest in Eastern Europe, there will very likely be inflationary costs across the European Union (EU) without the replacement of Russian gas supplies. Energy insecurity and rising costs have been a key source of political unrest in Europe since the Russia-Ukraine war began.
