Impeached South Korean President Arrested over Allegations of Insurrection

On January 15, South Korean authorities detained impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol over allegations of insurrections. Yoon has agreed to comply with the investigation, which he labeled illegal, to “avoid bloodshed.” A search warrant has also been reportedly issued to search Yoon at his residence. Yoon will be held for 48 hours from his arrest for authorities to question him, after which they will require a warrant to detain him for up to 20 days or release him.

North Korea Observed to Escalate Provocations Before U.S. President-Elect Trump's Inauguration

On January 14, 2025, North Korea reportedly launched multiple short-range ballistic missiles toward the East Sea in a likely provocation staged just days before the U.S. President-elect Donald Trump will take office. Tuesday's launch marked the recalcitrant regime's second provocation this year, after it fired what it claimed to be a hypersonic intermediate-range ballistic missile on January 6, 2025. Additionally, North Korea has been observed to be engaging in provocations against South Korea along the demilitarized zone (DMZ) border through overnight loud speaker announcements. South Korea and the United States continue to protest and monitor North Korean activities as South Korea's political instability could trigger offensive responses from North Korea.

DHS Announces Addition of 37 PRC-Based Companies to UFLPA Entity List

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), on behalf of the Forced Labor Enforcement Task Force (FLETF), announced the addition of 37 entities to the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) Entity List, marking the largest single expansion of the list to date. Among entities added are a large supplier of critical minerals and one of the world’s largest textile manufacturers, both linked to forced labor practices in the People’s Republic of China (PRC). This addition brings the total number of entities on the UFLPA Entity List to 144, representing significant progress in three years since the law was passed.
