Baltics to Officially Disconnect from Russian Power Grid

On February 8, the Baltic states - Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia - will officially disconnect from the Russian power grid. The three countries have been preparing to integrate into the European Union grid for several years and stopped purchasing electricity from Russia shortly after its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. However, their grids remained physically connected to Russia.

Russia Resumes Gas Deliveries to Slovakia via Turkey

Slovakia has resumed receiving gas deliveries from Russia via the TurkStream pipeline. This comes after the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine was halted on January 1, which stopped gas deliveries through the Druzhba pipeline. Slovakia is one of the few remaining European Union countries that rely on Russian gas volumes.

U.S. Imposes Sanctions on the International Criminal Court

U.S. President Donald Trump has imposed sanctions on individuals involved in the International Criminal Court (ICC) investigations of U.S. citizens and allies, like Israel. The sanctions, which freeze U.S. assets and restrict travel, were announced as Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu visited Washington. ICC has previously issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and others over the Israel-Hamas war.
