China Holds Shooting Drills and Taiwan Deploys Forces
China’s military recently held “shooting exercises” off Taiwan’s southwest coast. Taiwan’s Defense Ministry said they had detected 32 Chinese military aircraft carrying out a “joint combat readiness drill” with Chinese warships about 40 nautical miles off the coast—without prior warning—where Taiwan’s major southwestern population and military centers of Kaohsiung and Pingtung are located. Taiwan responded by dispatching sea, land, and air forces. The shooting drills came after China and Taiwan traded insults over the cut of an undersea communications cable off Taiwan's southwest coast. In another incident, China’ held navy drills, which forced 49 flights to change paths near Australia and New Zealand.
Romanian Parliament Passes Bill Allowing Military to Shoot Down Drones
The Romanian parliament has adopted a bill that allows the military to shoot down drones that illegally enter Romanian airspace. This comes after several Russian drones violated Romanian airspace throughout the three years of Russia's war in Ukraine. The legislation outlines specific conditions for the military to determine its response to both piloted and unmanned vehicles. Piloted vehicles can only be destroyed if they conduct an attack or respond aggressively to interception. Meanwhile, unmanned vehicles can be destroyed or otherwise neutralized depending on threat levels.
Individual Arrested in Brooklyn for Conspiring to Provide Material Support to ISIS
An individual was arrested for allegedly conspiring to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) and to the Islamic State-Khorasan Province (ISIS-K), possessing firearms while unlawfully in the United States, and immigration fraud. The defendant, who was in the United States illegally, allegedly not only facilitated tens of thousands of dollars in contributions to ISIS extremists overseas, but trained with assault rifles at shooting ranges in the United States and declared their readiness to ISIS.
